Foods high in cholesterol include eggs, liver, kidneys and some fish. However, the main source of cholesterol are, in fact, all those products high in saturated fats, for example, cream, butter, cheeses and fatty meats such as pork, lamb and beef. Cells throughout the body uses cholesterol to make hormones that are important and essential for growth and reproduction. Cholesterol is a vital component in the formation of new cell walls in different parts of the body. It is also an essential ingredient of the bile produced in the liver, which eventually passes into the intestine to help digest fats. Even when one is trying to lose weight, they must not go on a diet that contains little or no Cholesterol. This is true whether they are vegetarians or not.

Almost all the cholesterol that reaches the bloodstream is produced by the liver due to the metabolism of a variety of foods, especially saturated fat. However, since the daily requirement of cholesterol is to meet cellular function, it is amply supplied through the same function of the liver, the body requires no intake of cholesterol.

Once in the bloodstream, cholesterol passes through the body so that cells can cover all your needs directly. Too much cholesterol is circulating in the blood and can reach excessive levels. It is obvious that people who have high cholesterol are at increased risk of myocardial infarction, angina, or circulatory disorders. Excess cholesterol sticks to artery walls in the form of fatty deposits, blocking blood flow to different organs like the heart or brain.

For many people it would be easy to reduce this high level, simply changing your diet. But it’s not a matter of eating fewer foods high in cholesterol, as this would produce only a minimal effect on the existing level. To reduce it you should eat fewer fats, particularly saturated, since it is these that the liver converts into cholesterol.

There are plenty of foods that contain cholesterol but are high in saturated fat and, therefore, cause an increase in the level of cholesterol in the blood. The liver produces almost all the cholesterol needed by the metabolizing of fat digested. To prevent an increase in blood cholesterol, avoid foods high in both cholesterol and saturated fat. Cholesterol produced by the liver that binds to circulating in the bloodstream. Much of this cholesterol comes directly from certain foods. Other factors that influence the level of cholesterol in the blood are nicotine, alcohol consumption and some sports activities.
